March 2018 Update

The next South Santiam Watershed Council meeting will be Tuesday, March 20 from 3 – 5 pm at the Lebanon Public Library (55 Academy St., Lebanon).

Our speaker will be Laurie Nichols from the Army Corp of Engineers.  Laurie will be speaking on the ACOE recent Willamette Basin Review which discusses scenarios for reservoir operations throughout the Willamette basin.  Come hear what future South Santiam operations will be like for fisheries, recreation, agriculture and municipal interests.

After our speaker we will have board elections and other board business.

Recent Council Project activities:

The South Santiam Watershed Council restoration program has wrapped up the 2018 planting season.  We planted over 70,000 native trees and shrubs at project sites on Thomas Creek, Crabtree Creek and Hamilton Creek.  Yearly plant establishment activities will start at new and old project sites in April.

Funding for plant material was provided by OWEB, Meyer Memorial Trust, Arbor Day Foundation and One Tree Planted.  R. Franco Restoration provided plant installation.   Thank you!

The Council had an informational table at the Linn County chapter of the Oregon Small Woodlands plant sale held on February 3.  It was great to see old friends and meet new people.

Upcoming Council Education Activities:

The South Santiam Watershed Council education program is preparing for the Sweet Home and Lebanon school district’s March 2018 Outdoor School sessions.  The Council is excited to, again, take the lead in coordinating this event.  With an estimated 400 students participating, it will be a busy and productive event!

Thank you to everyone that helps make the Council a success!
