Thirty years ago, a group of people became aware that there was great ecological work happening in the South Santiam basin. They thought that having an organization to help coordinate this work, secure funding and support implementation might mean that even more work could get done. They dreamed that this organization would help kids and other community members explore what it means to be a good neighbor on the landscape. With their eyes set on that vision, this group of people started the South Santiam Watershed Council.
While our scope and scale have grown through the years, our vision and mission-driven work have not. After 30 years, the South Santiam Watershed Council continues to enhance and protect the natural resources of the South Santiam River watershed for the social, environmental, and economic benefit of all those who live, work and visit. This is true whether you have two legs or four; fur, fins or feathers; scales or skin.
Do you have a great story or a photo from a few years back? You can click on this link or use the QR code below; both will take you to a form where you can let us know who you are, and what South Santiam memory you want to share.
We are so excited to celebrate our humble beginnings and decades of partnership with you all and we hope you can join us on Thursday, January 30, from 5:00pm-7:00pm, at Barsideous Brewing, in downtown Lebanon. There will be a no-host social hour from 5-6 and a commemorative presentation from 6-7. Barsideous has lots of beverage options and a full, delicious food menu. This event is free and open to all. We welcome you to come and share stories, memories, hopes, and-- more than anything-- joy!
